Graduated Drivers License
The new Graduated Driver's License laws are now in effect in New Jersey. A student must be 16 years old to get a permit. They must be enrolled with a state-licensed driving school and be accompanied by a driving instructor to obtain a permit from the Division of Motor Vehicle. The student must have his or her permit for 6 months before he or she can take his or her road test to get his or her provisional license. Once the student takes the road test at 17, the student now can drive between the hours of 5:00 am until 12:00 midnight. The student can drive with anyone from the shared residence and only 1 non-family member until the driver's 18th birthday. At 18, the student gets a regular driver's license with no restrictions.
